What are you holding on to?
What are you afraid to give to God?
What is He calling you to trust Him with?
Over and over in Scripture, we are given accounts of people being asked to do things that seem humanly impossible, all with the same result: finding God faithful.
One account that sticks out to me is the one of Elisha and the widow woman.
If you are a parent, I want you to put yourself in this situation.
This woman had enough meal and oil for her and her son to eat one more time before dying. Then here comes the man of God who says that she needs to make him a cake first. I can’t imagine how Elisha felt asking this of her, even though he knew the outcome. As a mother, I can’t imagine being that destitute and God asking me for the very last thing I have.
Humanly speaking, she saw that she had nothing left. She was faced with choosing to either trust and obey God or do what made sense from her human perspective. I am certain that her motherly instinct said to feed her son first. Yet her spirit said to trust the Lord.
She chose to trust the Lord. She used the last of her supplies to make a cake for the man of God. I am not trying to add to Scripture, but I can imagine her cooking and serving Elisha with tears in her eyes, shaking hands, and questions in her heart. I sure would have! Yet with her heart and her actions, she said “Yes, Lord.” She did not say she would obey if Elisha provided meal and oil. She didn’t require a sign from God that He would intervene in her situation. She simply did what He asked.
As a result, she and her son witnessed a miracle. Again, I imagine her serving Elisha and returning to the kitchen to see if some crumbs were left for her son. To her surprise, the meal and oil were filled to the brim! When things seemed impossible, she gave God her obedience and the last of her physical supplies and witnessed His provision!
God is not worried about meeting our needs. He is not stressed when we ask Him to do big things! God was not pacing around, wondering how the meal and oil would be fulfilled! He wanted to fill it and show Himself mighty! God wants us to see His power and trust Him! He knows what He is doing, even if we don’t. Don’t be afraid to prove HIm. He is not nervous about keeping His promises or meeting our needs. It’s up to us to trust Him and live in obedience.
If God is asking you to tithe, give to missions, increase your giving, reach out to someone, serve in a new area, forgive someone, etc., trust Him with it. Just say yes to God and let Him handle the details.
Ephesians 3:20 says,“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
God is able!
Choose to live in faith & obedience today.
Stay in the Word, stay close to the Shepherd, and let Him lead you in paths of righteousness.
With Hope in His Service,
