Remember What God Has Done

Take a moment to look back on your life.

What comes to mind first?

For many of us, there are probably a few wonderful memories paired with a few not-so-great memories.

When you remember these moments, the good and the difficult, do you see God working?

We aren’t to live in the past, but we are to remember what God has done for us. These memories are part of our testimony, and we are to share them with others.

God instructed the children of Israel several times to do things in remembrance of God’s leading.

“And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12‬:‭14‬

“And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel: That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭7‬

“And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬-‭12‬

He warned them against forgetting what He had done for them.

When we forget what God has done for us, we don’t usually forget the situation. We just stop giving Him the credit and take it for ourselves. Be careful not to think of your life as just happenstance situations or your own doing. If you are saved, you belong to the Lord, and He is the One leading your life. You can trust and obey or ignore His leading, but even in our disobedience, He still works things in a way that will bring us back into His will.

Anything we have or accomplish is all because of God’s grace.

Additionally, others must see us giving Him the credit, sharing answered prayers, and asking for His leading. Do those closest to you know that you trust the Lord? Or do they see you trusting yourself?

“And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬

Do your children know that God is the One leading your home? Do you share past miracles and answered prayers with them?

Remembering times when God has provided, healed, comforted, and encouraged will help us and others, to trust Him. There will be times when your faith is weak. Look back at what God has done before and believe He can do it again.

Do not be afraid to share your faith openly. The world needs to know God is real, He is personal, and He is able to meet their needs.

Take time this week to reflect on your life, praise God for what He has done, and share it with someone else.

Stay in the Word, stay close to the Shepherd, and let Him lead you in paths of righteousness.

With Hope in His Service,

Heather
