“Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.” Mark 15:31 KJV
Have you ever stopped to think of what this statement truly means? Yes, it was said in a mocking way. It was said as an insult. It was said in disrespect.
But it was also said in ignorance.
Jesus could have easily called 12 legions of angels, He could have easily come down off the Cross, and He could have easily killed those who crucified Him.
But He didn’t.
He stayed on the Cross. By choice. For you and for me.
He willingly gave up His freedom, His life, His power, His position to be mocked, beaten, and crucified.
If Jesus would have come down off the Cross, He could not have saved us.
Had He saved Himself, He could not have saved others.
The one that yelled that out meant it negatively, not realizing how true and divine that statement is.
Jesus stayed on the Cross and that is how you and I have salvation.
Never think that He didn’t have a choice.
Don’t think Jesus died from the wounds He endured.
Mark 15:37 says, “And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.” He surrendered His life, it was not taken from Him.
So, yes, while He appeared to not be able to save Himself, it was the “others” He was saving instead.
Take time to thank God for Calvary, for your salvation, and for His love today.
He chose me. He chose you.
Stay in the Word, stay close to the Shepherd, and let Him lead you in paths of righteousness.
With Hope in His Service,
Heather
